N-Boost 8-2-2 high nitrogen organic fertiliser

N-Boost 8-2-2 high nitrogen organic fertiliser for crop nutrition

NPK 8-2-2 | Organic Matter 77% | 100% Sustainably Sourced Poultry Manure

SoilWorx N-Boost 8-2-2 is a high-nitrogen organic crop nutrition product delivering the elevated nitrogen levels that cereals, grassland and brassicas demand. With 77% organic matter and an 8-2-2 NPK analysis, N-Boost is our strongest nitrogen formulation: providing sustained release that feeds your crop while building soil fertility season after season.

What is N-Boost 8-2-2

N-Boost is manufactured from 100% sustainably sourced poultry manure, processed at our UK production facility through heat treatment and sterilisation. The result is a clean, consistent pellet with our highest nitrogen content: 8% N alongside 2% P2O5 and 2% K2O.

At 77% organic matter, N-Boost delivers more organic material per tonne than any other product in the SoilWorx agricultural crop nutrition range. This means that while you are feeding the current crop’s nitrogen requirement, you are simultaneously building the soil’s capacity to sustain future crops with less external input.

The nitrogen in N-Boost is predominantly organic. Soil microorganisms mineralise the organic matter, releasing nitrogen gradually. This biological process matches crop uptake more closely than water-soluble mineral nitrogen, greatly reducing the risk of nitrate leaching into watercourses.

Why nitrogen drives crop performance

Nitrogen is the nutrient most directly linked to crop yield in the majority of UK and Ireland’s farming systems. The building block of chlorophyll, amino acids and proteins, nitrogen drives crop performance at every stage:

  • Vegetative growth: Adequate nitrogen produces the leaf area needed to intercept sunlight and drive photosynthesis
  • Tillering in cereals: Spring nitrogen applications directly influence tiller number and, in turn, ear count per square metre
  • Protein content: Late-season nitrogen availability affects grain protein in milling wheat and malting barley
  • Grassland productivity: Nitrogen is the primary driver of grass dry matter yield, directly influencing stocking rates and silage cuts
  • Brassica growth: High leaf-area crops like kale, cabbage and cauliflower have particularly high nitrogen requirements

The challenge with nitrogen is supplying enough to maximise yield without over-applying and losing it to the environment. N-Boost’s controlled, microbial release profile helps to solve this challenge.

Key benefits

  • 8% nitrogen: our highest-N organic crop nutrition pellet, delivering serious nitrogen for demanding crops
  • 77% organic matter: the highest organic matter content in our agricultural range
  • Controlled release: nitrogen mineralises gradually via soil biology, reducing leaching risk
  • Soil building: Every application improves soil structure, water retention and biological activity
  • 100% sustainably sourced: poultry manure from traceable, UK and Irish supply chains
  • Heat-treated and sterilised: pathogen-free, weed-seed-free, low odour
  • Compatible with standard equipment: consistent pellet size for even spreading
  • Reduced environmental impact: lower nitrate leaching risk compared to soluble mineral nitrogen

Application guidance

When to Apply

For spring-sown cereals and brassicas, apply as a base dressing at or before sowing. For winter cereals, a spring application (February–March) provides nitrogen as the crop breaks dormancy and enters its main growth phase. For grassland, apply in early spring ahead of the first cut or turnout.

Application Rates

Typical rates range from 500 to 1,000 kg per ha depending on crop nitrogen requirement and soil nitrogen supply (SNS). At 8% N, 1,000 kg per ha delivers 80 kg N/ha. For precision recommendations, use our Fertiliser Calculator or consult your agronomist.

How to Apply

Broadcast with standard spinning disc, pneumatic or belt spreaders. N-Boost can be incorporated into the seedbed or surface-applied. For grassland, surface application with no incorporation is standard practice.

Suitable crops & systems

  • Cereals: Winter wheat, spring barley, oats: where nitrogen drives tiller count and grain fill
  • Grassland: Permanent pasture, silage leys, hay meadows: where nitrogen directly determines dry matter yield
  • Brassicas: Kale, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts: high leaf-area crops with elevated nitrogen needs
  • Maize: Forage maize and grain maize respond well to organic nitrogen sources
  • Conventional systems: Farms looking to reduce synthetic nitrogen use and build soil organic matter

N-Boost remains an excellent choice for conventional farms seeking to increase organic matter inputs and reduce reliance on synthetic nitrogen.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Independent field trials, including work conducted with our research partner Rothamsted Research, consistently demonstrate that poultry manure pellets deliver measurable yield responses across arable and grassland systems. The key is applying at the right rate for your soil’s nitrogen supply and crop demand. N-Boost’s 8% nitrogen content makes it one of the most concentrated organic nitrogen sources available in pellet form.

Yes. SoilWorx operates a fully automated production line with continuous monitoring and quality control. Every batch is tested and guaranteed to the stated NPK analysis. This consistency is a significant advantage over raw manure or compost, where nutrient content can vary widely between loads.

Yes. N-Boost contains 77% organic matter, the highest in our range. With every application, you are adding organic material that improves soil structure, increases water-holding capacity, improves aeration, and feeds the microbiological community. Over time, this reduces compaction risk, improves workability and builds a more resilient soil.

Yes, N-Boost is Organic Trust certified.

Ammonium nitrate (34.5% N) delivers nitrogen in an immediately available, water-soluble form. N-Boost (8% N) releases nitrogen gradually through microbial activity. This means higher application rates by weight are needed, but N-Boost also delivers 77% organic matter, trace elements and sustained release: benefits that ammonium nitrate cannot provide. Many farmers use N-Boost as a base application to reduce their synthetic nitrogen requirement while building soil health.

N-Boost is fully compatible with other SoilWorx products and can be co-applied with mineral fertilisers where a combined organic and mineral approach is desired. For bespoke blends tailored to your soil analysis, our custom manufacturing service can produce a single-product solution.
